Spring Storm Season: How to Prepare Your DFW Roof
October 14, 2026 · 4 min read · By the LoneRidge Roofing Team

North Texas storm season peaks from March through June, bringing hail, high winds and heavy rain. A little preparation before the first big storm makes damage less likely and claims easier if it happens.
Get a pre-season inspection
An inspection in late winter catches loose shingles, worn pipe boots and flashing problems while they are still small, and gives you dated photos of your roof's condition before any storm.
Trim trees and clear gutters
Cut back branches that overhang the roof; they become projectiles in high winds. Clear gutters and downspouts so heavy rain drains away from the house instead of backing up under the roof edge.
Document your roof now
Take photos of each side of your roof and your gutters from the ground, and save your policy declarations page. Knowing your wind and hail deductible ahead of time removes surprises later.
- ★Photos of all roof slopes and gutters
- ★Your policy's wind and hail deductible
- ★The date of your last roof replacement or repair
- ★A trusted local roofer's number saved in your phone
After a storm
Stay off the roof. Check for damage from the ground, protect the interior if there is a leak, and schedule an inspection. Be cautious of door-to-door contractors who appear right after big storms.

Book an inspection and see photos of your own roof before you decide.
Questions, Answered
Hail is most common from March through June, though storms can occur in other months.
If it is near the end of its life, replacing before storm season can avoid emergency repairs. Otherwise a pre-season inspection is usually enough.
